It is essential that insurers are notified of any claims or circumstances that could give rise to a claim as soon as possible – in some instances, within 24 hours of the incident. In certain circumstances, late notification could result in your claim being rejected.
Your policy or summary of cover document will describe the procedures to follow to make a claim. Most insurers provide a claims helpline which you must use to report and update your claim details; the telephone number will be included in the aforementioned documents. If in doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us.
If the claim involves damage to property, do not dispose of the damaged items or authorise repairs (except in an emergency or to prevent further damage) until we, or your insurers, confirm that you can go ahead.
If your claim involves damage or injury to a third party you should pass all correspondence to us or to your insurer immediately, before responding with answers to questions. Any attempt to negotiate or respond without prior approval of the insurer will breach the terms of your policy.
We will provide a claims handling service for as long as you remain a client and we will:
Settlement of claims is dependent on payment by the insurer. We cannot accept responsibility for any delay or wrongful payment or non-payment of claims, but we will always try our best to ensure that claims are promptly and fairly paid.
- Provide guidance
- Handle your claim fairly and promptly
- Inform you in writing if we are unable to deal with any part of your claim
- Forward settlement cheques to you as soon as we have received them from the insurer
- Provide reasonable help and assistance if your claim is not progressing to your satisfaction.
In light of the above, it is essential that we and your insurers are notified of a claim at the earliest opportunity, to enable each party to protect your position.
“When we have been unfortunate enough to have a claim, it has been handled sympathetically and speedily. This includes a claim where Home Counties was instrumental in us receiving a settlement of nearly £2,000,000, when the insurers originally offered considerably less! We have the highest regard for Home Counties Insurance, and would be happy to recommend them."
